SUMMARY:Gay Symphonic Band offers Civil Rights Tribute
DESCRIPTION:The Portland Gay Symphonic Band under the direction of Joseph Accuardi-Gilliam\, will perform a concert celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act. Selections include Mark Camphouse’s A Movement For Rosa (Rosa Parks)\, Frank Ticheli’s Amazing Grace\, Quincy Hilliard’s Fanfare for Freedom to name a few. \nTwelve Black students attended Clinton (Tennessee) High School in the Fall of 1956 and became known as The Clinton 12. Walking Into History by Richard Saucedo musically tells their story. \nI invite you to listen to some of these pieces ahead of time and prepare your ears for the musical feast that awaits them. Listen here to A Movement For Rosa. Listen towards the end of Walking Into History for the twelve tones identifying the twelve students from 1956. \nThe event is free with donations gratefully accepted.
