Gems from A Song A Day
I stumbled upon* an interesting web service a couple of weeks ago: A Song A Day. You sign up for a daily email Monday through Friday, tell them what types of music you like, mention some favorite artists or composers, and they deliver a song a day. [StumbleUpon is now Mix.com]
In the two weeks I’ve been receiving emails from @ShannonB, I’ve enjoyed 4 of the 11 songs curated for me. That’s a darn good success ratio. Especially considering the bare bones information I provided.
Admittedly, the genres they give attention to don’t include some of my favorites like wind band music or orchestral works. But then again, the purpose of ASAD is to shine a light on lesser known artists, independent artists who are not on Billboard’s charts.
Genres of ASAD :
- Alternative
- Country
- Electronic
- Featured
- Folk
- Metal
- Pop
- Rap & Hip-hop
- Reggae
- Rock
I’ve heard some cool new music, well, new to me. My favorite is this plaintive melody and creative use of lyric on rhythm by Leon Bridges’ song, Lisa Sawyer. Oh! He’s coming to Portland soon. Playing the Crystal Ballroom on April 16 and opening for Lord Huron.
If you enjoy soul, jazz, R&B, you may enjoy Leon Bridges.
Other faves from my personal collection ASAD are listed here.
